Few things matter as much to Kansans as wheat, the grain that supplies about one-fifth of all calories consumed by humanity year in and year out. It’s also the leading source of vegetable protein for humankind.
Much of that wheat assumes the form of bread. So, naturally enough, here in the Wheat State, we’re pleased to commemorate the one hundredth anniversary today of the world’s first fully automated bread factory.
Wired magazine features the anniversary in its focus on the Ward Baking Company in Give Us This Day Our Automated Bread.
