U 2 Can Spel

To some the observation will seem counterintuitive, but, as reported by the BBC News, a new study of 8 to 12 year olds at the University of Coventry has found that, far from deleteriously affecting reading and writing skills, texting is “associated with strong literacy skill.”

Indeed, according to Dr. Clare Wood, the use of texting “was actually driving the development of phonological awareness and reading skill in children.”

“If we’re seeing a decline in literacy standards among young children, it is in spite of not because of it.”
