Happy Birthday, Internet

“December 5, 2009, marks the 40th anniversary of the day when the Defense Department’s Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) connected four computer nodes to create a ‘network of networks’ — a fateful link-up that would evolve into the Internet.”

Scientific American wishes all the best to the Internet at 40.

(In truth, of course, there are probably a dozen different dates that might equally be celebrated as the Internet’s “birthday.” For purely personal reasons, I prefer this one.)
