Living Dangerously

Popular Mechanics features a brief slideshow of 8 of the Most Dangerous Places (To Live) on the Planet. Among others, they include Africa’s Lake Kivu, Indonesia’s Mount Merapi, Haiti’s Gonaives, the Maldive Islands (see our earlier post Beneath the Waves), and Russia’s Verkhoyansk.

For Haysville residents, the most interesting inclusion may be that of the I-44 corridor between Oklahoma City and Tulsa, which specifically references the devastating spate of tornados spawned on May 3, 1999, which so ravaged Haysville. (See photographs of the damage wrought locally in the three posts here, here, and here from the tenth anniversary of the tornado.)
