2009 Facts & Figures

The Tax Foundation has issued the first ever midyear update to its venerable booklet “2009 Facts & Figures: How Does Your State Compare?”, which “compares the 50 states on 37 different measures of taxing and spending, including individual and corporate income tax rates, business tax climates, excise taxes, tax burdens and state spending.”

How does Kansas stand in the Tax Foundation’s appraisals? 24th in total income per capita at $40,784 in 2008, with a Tax Freedom day of April 8th (the US average is April 13th); 31st in the State Business Tax Climate Index with a score of 5.10 (slightly above the US average of 5.00); 21st in the Individual Income Tax Index at 5.20 and 17th in the Sales Tax Index at 5.43; and 36th in state spending per capita at $4,766.
