Household Tax Rates

While we’re on the subject of taxation (see our previous post), it’s worth noting that the Congressional Budget Office just recently updated its historical Data on the Distribution of Federal Taxes and Household Income. This report offers the CBO’s “most recent estimates of federal effective tax rates (taxes as a percentage of income) across household income groups for the four largest sources of federal revenues– individual income taxes, social insurance (payroll) taxes, corporate income taxes, and excise taxes — as well as the total effective rate for the four taxes combined.”

For further and more detailed information, see also the CBO’s five-page report on Historical Effective Federal Tax Rates: 1979 to 2006.
